My Best Friend

My Best Friend

Many days I've wanted to die
Kiss my Ass and say goodbye
Make this world a little bigger
Bend my head and pull the trigger
The dark so deep swallowing me
Nothing helping me to be free
But then I think of those I know
And what to them I would show
It is my spite that keeps me here
They knowing I will always be near
Within me there is strength untold
All I need do's grab hold
And in my deepest darkest hour
My self-hating thoughts turn sour
I grab onto my closest friend
Who is myself in the end
For time is all we have in life
Even with the abundant strife
To know ones self to know it true
Is the only thing that will get us through
And so to all I say again
Love the person you are within

Nothing More

Nothing More

My head is pounding, throbbing, splitting,
ripping apart from within.
Piercing thrusts that are
beyond the endurance of human fortitude
Then the fires begin.
They sear my right eye from front to back.
It blinds every facet of my existence.
The touch of my own hand feeds the flame,
and when the flame dies down
the charred skin crawls slowly back into place.
The creeping of it, so much like the tickle of lice on a hot day ,
cause my hands to reach again to my head,
I can not think or comprehend other’s speech.
My ability to function is impaired to nihility,
 except for the pain.
Pain is all there is,
and all that exists is pain.
Nothing More

Walls And Walls

Walls And Walls

Thinking thoughts so dark so real
Would you find them to your appeal
If I told you my darkest dream
Detailed out I think you'd scream
If I shared but half my pain
It would drive you quite insane
My memories are swept aside
But in my dreams I can not hide
I am again the child that I once was
Screaming in my head with just cause
The hate, pain, and fear come back to me
Did I not love you I'd let you see
It is the shame of many years
And even love can't dry the tears
Would you have me open wounds
Let them bleed beneath that moon
You are not near to hold my hand
When I crush a wall, who'll help me stand
Some of my walls are thick and high
My love some reach to the sky ..............
And to breach them alone I just might die

Dark Reigns

Dark Reigns

It’s one thing to not sleep
It’s one thing to be depressed
but to not sleep and be depressed
Can cause me such great distress
To roam the house from night to dawn
With dark thoughts that are not calm
And in the light of day when asked what is wrong
Your biggest fear is you’ll go off like a bomb
The mind is so convoluted
With dark twisting corridors so polluted
Behind every door you try to look for one brief moment of light
But lights go out, the wind blows cold, slamming the doors tight
Depression and sleeplessness may go hand in hand
It may rule the midnight land
But in the Dark the silent Dark
Insanity reigns

I am a Tree

I am a Tree

I am a tree amongst the blackness
I have ghosts within my limbs
I am twisted bent and weeping
I am gnarled by men's sins
I am lost to light and laughter
I am ancient at my youth
Innocence never budding here
These branches stripped at birth
Never knowing love and care
No warmth within the dark despair
I've heard it said that light will shine
Darkness fades with love and time
years to come will bud new growth
Not of innocence but greeen with hope
Once the tree is warmed within--
Even love and trust may bloom again

One Soul

One Soul

I sat by your bed last night
Your hot brow covered in sweat

I removed the heavy burden of thick blankets
I covered you instead with a fine light sheet

I held your hand and stroked your hair
I soothed your brow with a cool damp cloth

I stroked your cheek and told you how beautiful your are
And that you were going to be a glorious angel one day

That you are so close to passing pulls at my heart
I spoke softly to you as I washed the fever from your skin

You are someone's daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend
Your eyes shine too brightly in the softly light room

In time a week, a day, an hour, a moment, that stage will reverse
Your eyes will dim and the brightness will leave this world

So my hands are gentle in all your care
For you are my charge and I am your nurse

Sketch

Sketch
I am shadow and light
dust on a page
that brings delight
I am sultry and sensual
I am ugly and evil
or gorgeous divine
I am the image on paper

Waiting for you

Waiting for you

Watched the sky for a falling star
But all I thought was you're so far
Couldn't keep the gray in my brain
From thinking up poetic refrain
Then like rice paper in a flame
They'd slip away, who’s to blame
No way to write them down
Riding in and out of town
I'd write a letter to say I love you or how I am
Or perhaps ask for help if I got in a jam
Out here on the road though there is no post
That’s life in the wind for all of us ghost
I see my reflection on the wall
And think it'd be nice to give you a call
But I have no voice like it once was
No, you wouldn't hear me nobody does
No one listens to the whispering air
Then if they did they might get a scare
Hearing a loved one who’s passed away
Make room at the nuthouse they're going to stay
One day you'll cross over and I'll be there

But for now I'm just riding on the wind and a prayer

Quiet Observation

Quiet Observation

Background flute, looks
Noses pressed to books
Pages of notes written
Conversations glisten
A glimpse of the inner child
Hair-dos, most wild
A child pouts and they attend
She skillfully leads them to their end
Snatching pieces from their plates
While all around life copulates
The world outside screened by silk
Inside coffee filled with milk
Several languages spoken all at once
Confused and feeling ever the dunce
Sunday feeling less than proud

Watching the Barnes & Noble crowd

On Being Tired

On Being Tired

I need to embrace Morpheus
hold him close and treat him as a lover
keep him within the circle of my arms that I might dream
To feel the gentle swaying
as my mind does slip maddeningly away
and cover my mouth that I not scream
His kiss upon my eyes would be welcome
as a lovers kiss on a moonless night
lips soft touch calling me gently into sleep
Where is the god of dreams when one has need
does he drink the wine of Bacchus
high on mountains steep
Does he terry long and lovingly
with Clotho, Atropos, and Lachesis
as they weave out my fate
Perhaps he counsels Ares
on long dark lonely nights
tormenting him with hate
Come to me now oh lord of sleep and dreams
and take me far and wide from this place

that I may sleep a hundred years in just a moment's space

Outside Looking In

Outside Looking In

No one listens to what you say
They believe you less everyday
Your boasting and bragging falls on deaf ears
The stories you tell change over the years
The passing of time doesn't make your lies true
So tell me without them would you be more blue
You enter conversations uninvited
Do you really think this makes you united
Do the fantasies you weave within your mind
Really have to spill over at the drop of a dime
Do you need them to think more of yourself
Would it kill you to put all your lies on a shelf
Are you familiar with suffering bore
Or do you really believe it's you they adore
Your wit and witticisms leave people cold
I'm sorry that life has left you bitter and old
You may be a teacher but you're no Momma Cass
Hell I'm not even sure you have that much class
So here's some advise from the outside looking in
Gather all your memory of lies and begin
Write out your memoirs in a great book

To be published and placed on a fantasy nook

I The Only Friend

I The Only Friend

Branch bending weighted with strange fruit
You dashing, pinstriped suit
Double breasted buttons loose
Dangling there within the noose
Jerk, tremble, heart beats end
I the only watching friend
Hostile people point and leer
Your life forfeit out of fear
Swore your innocence time and again
The jury said guilty, with a grin
A crime of passion they swore
Found you crying by the door
The body cold, blood everywhere
You said you found her lying there
Cops blamed you, no one else around
You had just arrived from out of town
They dragged you in though you didn’t fight
Beat you under a bright light
Broke you fingers one by one
Trying to find where you hid the gun
Beat your body black and blue
All the time swearing it was you
Her blood and yours there on your hands
They beat you badly you barely could stand
You swore that you loved her and could never do this
The blood on your hands was from your one last kiss
You said you embraced her lifeless form tight
And had God himself been in front of you there would have been a fight
You said you released her and crawled to the door
And that’s where they found you huddled up on the floor
Insanely you begged for release from these earthly bounds
Begged let me join her in heavenly gowns
Then they accused you of taking her life
And that was the start of this horrible strife
Dragged off to the jail beaten to a pulp
So parched and thirsty you couldn't even gulp
Days and weeks knowing evil is out there and no one will seek
Falsely accused of a crime and the outlook is bleak
Months and years knowing the trail has gone cold as old bone
The trial, the lawyers, the money all gone,
and you thinking you're all alone,
but I'm here; I'm watching your final hour
They would have known the truth too,
had they looked in your shower,

I was there watching each one of you

My Lover My Sanity

My Lover My Sanity

First you’re hot then you’re cold
You’re like a fire in my soul
You take me higher then drop me low
You leave me wanting things so bold
Passion hot desire deep
Fill me with your throbbing length
Your thunderous booming in the night
Calls my soul with such delight
Straddling power, form, and grace
I strip away the whimpering lace
To ride you far into the night
Glancing not home ‘til early light
Take me faster, harder still
Fulfill my every want and thrill
Give me not but your formed seat

and your pegs beneath my feet

Mary Rose Scott

Mary Rose Scott

Oh Hallowed ground where the dwell
I sit and listen to thy stories tell
Your voice is in the wind and rain
Your sorrow carries so much pain
You walk with me from grave to grave
For our relationship I must be brave
You died in nineteen and six
So tell me why do we two click
Your gravestone’s beauty calls to me
And Mary Rose Scott on it I see
So many Scotts with you there lie
But no others have sought my eye
Other people feel you when I am near
And I often hear you in my ear
I see you sometimes walking there
But always feel your great despair
Sometimes I see you oh so pale
And in my heart I feel I’ve failed
I know not what it is you need
Or on my morose do you feed
There are times I wish you’d let me be
For I can not set you free
Someday I hope you’ll tell me true
Just what it is I can do for you
I’ve searched the records in the town
Yet your name I have not found
Someday I’ll find you in a book
I’ll find it in a dusty nook
And then perhaps I can discern

What it is you’d have me learn

I Drink

I Drink

I drink to forget
No not regret
To ease the thought in my mind
Work life, stress that kind
I drink to sleep
Piled on the bed in a heap
It numbs my thoughts
Of family and job and whatnots
I drink to ease the worry
People will die if I hurry
Fatherless children if I do my job wrong
Family in crisis I must be strong
I drink for many a whys
Look at my life you'll give many a sighs
Truth and lies all become one
Without drink I'd come undone
I drink to hide the sadness I feel
The depth of my pain would make others reel
The madness inside must be kept at bay
For if it gets loose someone will rue the day
I drink for too many reasons to name
And in its light I see that life is just a game
A puzzle to be finished a game of the mind

And the only clue there is try to be kind

Waiting

Waiting
She sits; a pile of crumpled rags,
beneath a solemn ancient tree.
She is there among the fallen leaves,
as though she is a part of them.
Her hair amber and burnt,
once shown like vibrant jewels of flame:
it now takes on the duller hues
of autumn closing on winter.
There she sits, her clothes arrayed
as though she were melting into the land.
Behind her the ancient tree laments its leaves
and gives what comfort it can.
She is lost to the world now,
not knowing from where she came,
how she arrived at this place, or even
of being at this place.
The tree and she are all that exist.
They share a great pain,
the death of the world

and of themselves.
